This is a place where you can get an update on what I'm working on... The ins and outs of each book I read and review.
Buckle up… it’s a wild ride in my world somedays.

09.27.2023 – Well, that didn't happen. Still at the same place doing the same things. But I want to read more. Finished the 4 books of The Jezebel Files by Deborah Wilde.. so good, so snarky and so much ompf! Now I'm in that post book funk... nothing is good enough. I've gotten to know those characters and feel for them and their mission, I want to keep reading about them. So I wait till the funk passes, till then I'l open to a beta read or two for the month of October. Maybe something will come through? hmm.
All those lovely books from Christmas, are still sitting there, plus a few more I picked up throughout the year. Its a sickness I tell ya!

10.08.2022 – Oh my goodness... So much stuff has happened in 2 years. For starters I’m with the same company but with a new job. I got married and will be celebrating our 2-year anniversary this November. We have a son. Greyson is his name, and he was born May 2022. I read occasionally now. Its just so hard with a 4-month-old who is teething, a full time job and trying to sleep to find time to read anything. I did finish school! I got the AA and an AAS too. I do want to go back and work on my bachelor’s degree but again… no time.
I got so many great books for Christmas; they are just sitting there… begging to be read. What are you reading right now? Anything good? The top three books I got that I want to read (probably not this year, let’s be realistic here) are The Flight Attendant by Chris Bohjalian (this is that one that was adapted for the screen with that chick from the Big Bang… looks good), Recursion by Blake Crouch (I know nothing about it, but it came recommended) and The Five by Hallie Rubenhold. This last one is really something that interests me. Its about the women that Jack the Ripper went after, sounds good!
I don’t know when I’ll be able to beta read again, I want too… really badly! In a perfect world, once 2023 hits I would look for and be able to secure a job in publishing and be able to edit for a living. Imagine, getting paid to do something you love. The dream… but time will tell. Until I see you again, live your best life and keep reading!

06.01.2020 – LIFE IS NUTS! Aside from the COVID-19 stuff, the Shelter in Place orders, now we have riots… I don’t even wanna go there.
How are you? How are you holding up? What are you reading, or doing, or what hobby are you finally getting to? I am still in school. Well, actually I’m back in school. I got my Certificate in May of this year (pending it being mailed to me) and now I’m back at it going for a double Associates at the Community College. AAS in Organization Leadership and AA in English-Lit… I’m already picking/doing the electives that I love and they will work for the AA in English too! Score…
I won’t be able to beta read till like 2022 or something – so sad. But I am still chipping away at Jenn Stark’s books – I’m on book 9 and omg… I get about 20 minutes a day to read, right before bed and I usually end up falling asleep while reading. I do have this other book I wanna read, it’s by the Shat man! :D TekWar by THE Willian Shatner – the fiancé (yep it’s official) and I found it at a second hand store some time ago and it’s collecting dust at this moment, but I’m ready for it soon.

03.27.2020 - Happy New Year?! Holy Frack! What is going on out there!?!
I seriously hope you (whoever you are reading this) is healthy and that your family and friends, and you, are smart and stay home during this time. Your state might not have made it mandatory but it probably would still be a good idea to work from home, if you can.
I am working from home, I’m very lucky to be able to do this, but still… Between work (trying to keep to a normal schedule) and school (sooo very close! May is just a hop away) I’m not reading much… and that’s sad. I am reading Jenn Stark, book 8 of her Immortal Vegas series. Her stuff is really good. 2 more books in this series, then I got the next series with the main character of Sara Wilde – The Wilde Justice group – I have issues.
I’ll be back to Beta Reading again in May, maybe sooner and then… (why do I do this to myself) I am going back to school in the Fall, probably. In May I’ll be able to graduate with my Certification in Organizational Management, but that’s not good enough I guess for me, I’ll be perusing my Associates in Organizational Management with a focus on Literature. I’m surprised at the amount of online classes that Scottsdale Community College has available. (No big University for me.)
Ok, so I leave you with this… Stay healthy, stay clean (always wash your hands and 6ft yo!), and it’s important to stay upbeat if you can. Self-isolation can lead to all sorts of nasty things (from depression to anxiety, sleep issues and eating issues…) so take some time for you right now. Take a quiet walk, find time to meditate (if that’s what you are into), read a light book or watch a comedy, don’t dwell.

12.12.19 – So close, yet so far away… Finished my Fall class and ready to start on my last 2 classes in January. May cannot get here quick enough!
I usually pride myself on being able to read and comprehend books pretty quickly but this last 6 months has been hard with this single class. And an intro class at that! I think it took me 2 months to finish Black Annis (which was pretty good by the way). Finally I have a break till January 13th. Books and video games, here I come!
May have 2 beta reads lined up for my time off, we’ll see if they go ahead with it and agree.
At the end of May I will be done with school and I can finally do WAY MORE beta reads and really enjoy my time. I’m truly happy that I’ve found something that I’m passionate about, some people go their lives without finding that thing.

05.31.19 – Did it again… Just finished up an English class, got an A. Would have been really sad to have not passed it or to have gotten a lower mark. Next one starts in August.
I’ve been on a Victorian Steampunk kick! I have the Finishing School series by her and am just enjoying the heck out of them. Gail Carriger has a few more books I want to get, but I’ll settle with what I have for now. If you haven’t read her stuff I would strongly suggest it! She writes Paranormal Romance meets Fantasy and Horror and A LOT of Steampunk. She is witty in her writing and her characters are memorable. I’d start with Soulless if you are interested.
Okay, so back to school work… I have a re-read from a beta I did a few months back and then life to lead I guess. You all don’t melt in this summer and I’ll check in later!

05.09.19 – I did it! I passed both classes with an A. Next one is for the month of July (English 101) and then another starts August… When am I going to be able to beta read you ask?! I have no idea. HaHa… I’m happy to work on some stuff now, but it will take a little longer.
Oh and Vacation in June, 100% ready for it.
I’m not really reading much, I’m still on that one, Eternally Yours – I don’t know anymore… it has its moments but they are far and few. My guy has lent me 4 books, a friend has given me 3, and lent me 1… and I recently have a yearning to read The Bell Jar. I appear to be in a pickle.

04.23.19 – Almost done with Spring classes.. so close, the final is in a week and then no more till July. Silly me has decided to take a class in the summer, a condensed class. So they take a 4-6 month class and smash it into 1 month. I must really hate myself… But in the end it will be worth it.
I’ve not really read much in the past few months, I think 8 total books this year. I’m sad about that but that also means that I’ve been pretty selective with what I spend my time on. I did finish all 4 books in Jayne Faith’s Stone Blood series and I gotta say I really really liked them!
Also read Ella, The Slayer… terrible but I was committed to finishing it. Follows the story of Cinderella but at the beginning of the 1900’s with Nazis and wars and stuff??? And then there were zombies. Wtf – totally out of left field and it just felt like the author was trying too hard to get all these elements into one book. And the sad thing is, there are more in that series – so not reading them.
I’ve just started Eternally Yours by Gina Ardito – it’s really not what I thought it was going to be – just based upon the cover.. I thought romance – it’s about a gal that kills herself and now has to pay the price of suicide by being a Bounty Hunter for the dead.. it’s witty and charming and an easy read.. only about 20% though but it’s okay.
So excited about vacation in June! WooHoo! Can NOT wait for that. Okay, back to school work and back to real life for you. ;) Later!

03.24.19 – School is half over for me. Finished one class with a solid A (go me) and the last class is taking forever but I’m doing well. I haven’t taken on any other Beta reads yet (and will try not to till after my vacation) but I have been reading some other stuff… I found 2 little gems on Amazon for free (don’t know if they still are) but you should take a look!
Marked by Sin by Jasmine Walt was so much fun! It kept me entertained, yet I wasn’t so completely drawn in that I neglected anything else in life.. I’m happy it was free and the characters were good fun.
And Blood of Stone #1 – by Jayne Faith. I loved loved loved this book! I loved it so much, I went and bought the second book. (so out of character for my penny pinching self) This book has amazing characters, a story that is so vivid you are completely taken out of the real word and just sucked into this tale! I’m amazed it was free. The second book is proving to be pretty great too! I’m just so drawn to the story, can’t say enough. Really.
You get a chance take a look at them.
So about vaca… y’all are gonna love this one. Are you ready? My honey and I are going to Maine and Nova Scotia in June. O.M.G. Getting out of the heat of hell (a.k.a. Phoenix) is one thing, but I get to see Cape Breton Island. Just WOW… so pretty, so many different colours of green and wildlife.. gosh. I’m so lucky to be able to go. Gonna be 2 weeks of heaven. Though I’ll miss my little cat I’ll be loving life. Golly.

02.26.19 – Too long I know… I’m in school right now and it’s going very well! I’m on schedule to finish one class over a month early and the other (thank you teacher) I’ll finish on schedule – she refuses to open the quizzes early for me… oy.
I did just complete a Beta Read – I know I said I wasn’t going to read anything till after school, but this author is pretty awesome and I just had too… and it’s a good thing I did! This book rocks! I’ll see about posting a review or something about it later, but for now I’m still spinning from reading it 2 days later. Hehe…

12.18.18 – All done… wow. A comedy Space Opera – that is a mouthful but boy was it entertaining as hell! The author, KC, wrote these characters so well… hardly any suggestions to improve. I’m waiting to see he wants me to post a review.. I would love to give you an idea about it! I wish I knew someone who would love this book – would totally get it for them as a gift. Teehee…
Next up… another Beta Read. Hehe.. but this time from an author I really like. You’ve seen her stuff on my Reviews tab – NS Austin. I like her writing and the stories are always fun and different than what you think. Should be good! And… I should be able to work on her book (not much ‘work’ really) right up till I’m ready to start school. Eeee… I’m nervous but not. Odd feeling.
Okay… y’all have a good one and I’ll check in with life in a few. Happy Christmas and all that shtuff!

12.06.18 – So much has happened! When I last left you I was about to start a new beta read and I just suffered through it. Well, I finished that book and that author will never talk to me again (oh well), I also started and finished another beta read – End Man by Al… so good. I posted the review- go check it out.
That one was a really fun read – a good mystery and ‘normal’ surroundings – nothing high fantasy. Those always take me a little to get into the groove of it.
The one I’m on now… This one is pretty cool too. I’m going to check in with the author tonight to give him my progress update. Billed as a Comedy Space-Opera. Right?! It feels like Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy a little.
On a more personal note.. I do start school in January till May so I will probably be radio silent for that time, maybe. I also moved into a new place so that’s always fun – packing, moving, unpacking – getting my cat to calm down long enough to let me sleep through the night.. yeah, the last few days have just been a joy!
My boyfriend has challenged me for the next 5 months… to write a short story each month and send it out to be beta read. I have tried to write before, and it has all the components a story would need, but I just never am able to get that ‘spark’ – you know. So I’m going to try, and probably fail miserably but I’ll give it a try. Who knows.. maybe I can write too. Hmm…

10.11.18- Ruh Ro… Finished book two of The Witch’s Ambitions Trilogy… I wish I could be one of the masses… blindly happy about anything, but I didn’t really like them. I want to be supporting and encouraging... this author is doing something that I can’t. I could never write a book, I’ve tried… but whew. She did want honesty… they were just okay.
She probably needs new beta readers and a new editor. I ask you, how is it you can have a Romanesque building and Victorian styled homes if this land that the witches live in never had either time periods? I get that she was trying to conjure up the image in the reader’s head but no. Oh and for a land that is so NOT Earth, they apparently have Jenga! “To me, life is more like Jenga; we stack decisions on top of one another …” Um… problem!
One more author that will never give me the time of day. Kayla (the author), if you are reading this… and I doubt you are, please really think about book #3 and really think hard. Find someone that will catch the misused words, spelling errors, odd scenes… You have potential, but as it stands now I really have no want to read book #3. Sorry Not Sorry?!

10.05.18 – Tis that time of year again. Whether you like or don’t like it... the Holidays are upon us.
I just finished a RAR (Read and Review) book that was okay. A little predictable but by the end it was pretty okay. Walking that line between writing what you think and feel and not wanting to be a total bitch is hard. I always tend to lean more one way than the other and I don’t want to hurt the author’s feelings, but at the same time… if your stuff is lacking and no one else has told you then I would be doing a disservice by NOT telling you. At least that’s how I justify it…
I’m looking forward to these months to come… being in Phoenix we don’t really get a Fall but we do get a little Winter. The days start to get shorter, the nights longer… a nip in the air and it just smells cold. I don’t know how else to explain it. I always feel a little more energetic this time of year.
Onward to more books!

08.30.18- I wish it were Fall right now… but the good thing about this time of year, it makes me want to read that much more. Curl up on a sofa or a comfy chair with a great book.. MmmHmm.. yes please!
I finished up Witch Slapped back at the end of July and it was pretty good. Took me a bit to get into it, but for the most part it ended on a nice note. A young woman is shunned by her coven and finds herself back in her hometown in Washington where she and her familiar bat are sought out by a ghost to solve the death of a local fake medium. Tons of humor and action, nice quippy lines… it was fun and a free read! Then next was Children of Avalon by S.E.Wright.. This one took forever for me to get into and I don’t know why that is… maybe not the right mindset?! Idk. Young woman finds she is a special breed of person who can travel through time and space.. sounds so hokey, but stay with me here, this young lady ends up helping (and I think falling for) the young Kind Arthur. Another free read… honestly I can’t really remember anything else about it, that’s sad.
I’m onto a new one thought, American Gods – I guess they made a show about it?! What rock am I living under, shesh.. Its good, I’m only about a quarter through but I’m hooked, totally.
Well, let’s see if I can get anymore beta reads, but until then I’ll stick with American Gods and Fear University (free read too.. I just love free books)

7.18.18 – It has been too long y’all! Close to a month since I’ve last looked at this page… tisk tisk… Oo I, uh, finished up the Mistborn series (well the first 3 of 4- I don’t think that 4th one really goes with the first 3)… what else… work. Yep, that’s about it.
I finished that book by EJC- and he gave the okay to post a review.. seriously you need to pick it up when it hits Amazon! Really very excellent. It’s all about body modifications/enhancements, dirty cops, dirty cartels, and the whole lot… I really don’t want to give anything away – but I have to say… the ‘dirty harry’ cop and the cartels and gang stuff was my fav! Oo and the dialog, so good too. Okay okay… no more.
Looking to start a new beta soon… but I don’t have any takers.. oddly this time of year is slow for me – so that gives me the opportunity to read random things. And thankfully they are quick reads – freebies from Amazon.
Night Shift Witch by Cate Lawley – really fast and kinda fun read. Didn’t know what to expect going into it, but was pleasantly surprised… Justice Calling by Annie Bellet – not my cup of tea.. I liked the idea, a woman is in hiding from some big bad guy and wants to do right to the town and her new friends.. get’s sucked into a situation and comes out of it okay… but it had to do with shifters and they just are not my fav. Although the geeky side of the main character was a hoot! It was okay, I’m happy it was free for me. Hehe… Little Red by Caroline Lee – so NOT my kind of book. The only thing that drove this story was the love story. What the fudge yo. Really made the main character (female) out to be helpless without her big strong bounty hunter to protect her. meh. And am on Crown of Death by Keary Taylor- Now this one… looks promising… Vampires- a young woman who has just been dealt a bad hand of things- A guardian who is charged with protection and secreting her away… and that’s a far as I’ve gone it in. We will see what awaits around the corner. Later y’all!

06.29.18 – A month.. It’s been a month since I’ve last posted.. WOW. So much.. Finished the romance and the write up. The mystery book by DM.. hmm.. this one was interesting. IDK. I think the idea and story line wasn’t that bad, but there was parts that I could have done without I think. I don’t feel like I’ve wasted my time reading this tho. :D
Started on a new book which is amazing… The author won’t want me to post a review but I’ll say here for all you readers (all what.. 3 maybe?) this is the second book from EJC that I’ve read and it’s just as good, if not better, than the first I’ve gone through.
In a nutshell.. in a future where some individuals will go under the knife to become modified- these human/robot hybrids.. but there is a catch… it’s illegal! So EJC’s story follows the lives of several people and how they are connected and the ups and downs of this life. There is action, adventure.. humor and a lot of villains.
On a personal note – I had my birthday just this past weekend (oh happy day…)but I did get to spend it with my guy.. Andrew was so sweet! He took me to the Lava Tubes up in Flagstaff. If you are not familiar with this – these are tubes that used to be lava flows that are now hollow. But! What is amazing is the temperature different.. it could be 90 degrees out but the second you step inside it’s 42 degrees.. Year round!! Crazy! Then we got to go horseback riding – been way too long for me and first time for him.
Now I’m off on another adventure – Chicago IL! Can’t tell you how many times I’ve flown into O’Hare but I’ve never stayed, just drove on through to Aurora… but not this weekend! I get to be a tourist! Museums, Polish buffets and Palermo’s Pizza! So many things to do in 3 days, but it will be great! Andrew really went the extra mile this time.. So – Till I see y’all next time, have a safe and fun Holiday and keep reading!

05.22.18 – Oh my… Let’s check things off the list here… Romance novel completed? Check! Romance write up? Check! Still have to do the review for it… Next book starts June – got that to look forward to… Oh and Phoenix Comic Fest? Check for Friday. My first one, I’m nervous and excited. I have some issues with anxiety, especially around lots of people so I’m kinda shooting myself in the foot here… but I’ll be with my guy so I’ll have him to help.
The next book is starting 6/6 it's going to be a mystery. I know nothing else.. but this author has written other stuff… based upon her website she writes of murder, deception and secrets.. Some YA stuff and kids books too. (that’s interesting) Alright let’s do this!

05.09.18 – I am just started a new beta – the Romance one.. should be good… The Author LO said that it has some mild sex scenes and adult language. (Been awhile since I’ve read anything saucy)
Surprisingly I don’t have much to rant about… my life is doing good, which is odd, but I’ll take it! I’m meeting the BF’s family this weekend and I’m so nervous… but that means that he wants to keep me so that’s good. Hehe… I’m excited to get started on this new book tho, really am. Sounds like in addition to a romance, there is this stalker character that is being hunted down and I think captured in the past books… I wonder what this one will be about… Hmm…
So AD… the shorts were pretty good but he says he has this novel that he’s wanting to be read and worked over too, that he’ll send me the word count and we can work out a date to start the work… I’ve heard nothing… :/ Honestly I don’t think I’ll hear from him again till June but idk.
Oo the next book up to bat is this mystery and that’s all I know of it. The author DM gave me nothing else to go off of, but I love a good mystery! The thrill of walking that winding path with the character, the suspense of when something happens and then the ‘Ah Ha!’ moment when you think you figured out who the killer was … only to realize you were wrong and it was someone else the whole time. So good, so very good! Actually it’s been awhile since I’ve read a really good mystery ... hmmm maybe I’ll get my wish and stumble upon a real page turner?!

04.24.18 - Oh my gosh! I just finished that Urban Fantasy one.. wowza! My head is still reeling from all the images. I’m going to do a review of the book and post it (and post it on GR and Amazon when it comes out) so you will be able to see who and what I’m talking about but ya… it was good. (Update - actually this author didn't want me to do a review for the book. Sad... I'll ask if I can mention his info here.. you have to read the book. First-rate!)
My weekend activities were awesome, yeah for vacations! Drove up to Durango Colorado with my honey and stayed at this picturesque little B&B, got to ride on a train (my first time!) and saw Silverton… if you’ve never been to Colorado I highly suggest.
Okay.. so little break to write up my stuff, a short story to read for AD, and finally a break for me to read my own stuff before I start a new Adult Romance (Oo la la!) I’m in the middle (well more like the first quarter) of the third in the Mistborn series – The Hero of Ages… really good – Brandon Sanderson did a pretty good job. Haha.. Oh well… back to the grindstone for this little one.

04.18.18 – I am so totally enjoying this new book! The Urban Fantasy… I’m 55% through and it is getting so good! I can’t wait to finish it to see the outcome. Right now all the main characters are after each other.. an uber spy vs. spy.
I leave for my vacation in a few days and then… Bum pa da Dum!! I got a new beta to start after I’m back in town… should be good! An Adult Romance.. Ooo steamy! I know it says that I’m not the best with 50 shades of .. and I really am not. I mean, I’ll read it but I blush terribly the whole time. But… this, I hope, will be good. I love how in just two months I can go from reading about paranormal stuff, to myth’s and legends, to romance.. just love it, so much variety!

04.09.18 – I’m about to start on this Urban Fantasy tomorrow… I’m hopeful that I can finish by the time I leave for vacation next weekend… Adult Urban Fantasy… that’s all I know about it. I haven’t snuck a peek or anything (very unlike me..) I told the author I would start tomorrow… but I may start tonight. I guess it depends how my game play goes.. I get frustrated or bored I may start the new book tonight.
I like this author though… EC.. he seems pretty chill and very much in control of what he wants. That’s all I got y’all. I’ll tell you how it goes soon. :D

04.08.18 - This is a new thing I'm going to try... You can get a glimpse into my thoughts and what I'm reading... kinda like a journal cross update page. Should be a hoot...
So, I just finished reading these short stories by AD... so good. He sends me 5 stories (around < 15K words) One is about this dude that is turned into a vampire ... if you know me at all I love vampires. It's a sickness... so this dude gets turned into a vamp and is now in possession of this great gift and it's his choice how he want to live his life.. good or bad, take the evil doer or the heart of gold... love it. Then the next few are about good vs evil (in some form...) I always root for the evil, I think it's because so many times the good guy wins and it gets boring sometimes...
The last one I read from him was only around 1500 words but it was good vs evil but there was this third party that pretty much demolished both parties and set the stage for this all out-drag out war... So much potential there...
This same author , I guess, has a novel that he may share with me.. I hope so. The idea is this hidden city is buried deep and is trying to find a way to either save themselves or get free of something.. kinda sounds like that movie Ember - you know.. the one with Bill Murray. Good movie, I just hope his story isn’t like that. But I guess time will tell.. idk.

Prior… I have to say this… I did beta read a book just recently and it was … something else. Please, a friendly word of advice from me to you. Let’s say you are a first time author.. and you have this great idea that is so unique and special that you want to share it with the world. That’s awesome and I am so happy for you! Please, please, PLEASE… don’t make your main character ‘superman’. No one person is perfect.
This author (no name and no title here, we will call the character Bob) created a character that was ‘perfect’ in all ways.. Super smart, kind, funny, witty, charismatic, wealthy… a stand in father figure to young girls that were not his own… Blech. Please don’t do that. He made Bob with no flaws. And when he did try to introduce a flaw he had one of the other characters dismiss it and say that it wasn’t a flaw that it was just the way he was, and that he (Bob) was perfect.
No… just no. Characters are people like you and me. You may be smart and witty but have the charisma of a rock. Or you may super funny and imaginative but have a face made for radio. (just a generalization not poking fun at anyone or any person…) Make your characters unique and personable.
I felt so bad reading this guys book. He sent it to me and told me it needed a polish and I was just floored. I felt bad… I have a tendency to be really blunt and just say it like how I see it, but I try really hard to be pleasant about it. I’ll tell you something blows but I’ll try to give you a few ways to adjust/make better. Some stuff of his I just couldn’t make better.
I’ve been asked before why I don’t write, that I read all these stories and work with all these authors.. that I have to have creative ideas too. And I do! But – I can’t write. I could get the dialog out, and set a scene and make a story.. but my writing doesn’t have the spark that you authors have been able to manufacture. Truthfully, I’m a bit jealous of your talent. So… those that can’t write – help to fix. I am at your service.
