How It WorksDepending on the size of your novel or short story will determine the cost. I know many people or companies out there will charge by the word. Sometimes that can be very costly and I don't think that's right. (Costs have gone up effective 6/25/23 due to ... life?! I'm still pretty cheap in comparison, so shop around and reach out to me and we can talk)
The standard time frame for me to complete a Beta Read is 10-14 business days for a 60K-100K word count, if you need it rushed there may be an extra charge (email me and we can talk about that). If your story is on the longer side, 100K plus it could take 3.5-4.5 weeks. I believe in being very thorough, so you can be assured that I will read every word... that being said I may get a little backlogged if I’m working on other projects. Reach out to me and we can find a solution that will work for you. Not everyone will like the same genre. I’m pretty open minded... Mystery, Paranormal, SciFi, even some Romance – I’m not the strongest with the 50 different shades but I'll give it a go. I understand if you need to get to know your beta reader a little before you hire them. Click on About Kel at the top to read a little about me. Happy to say effective 6/25/23 I will be offering Alpha reading services too! The cost for this service will be based upon the word count of your manuscript - go to Contact tab and inquire there. |
What's the Difference? You may ask, What's the difference between an Alpha Reader and a Beta Reader? Here ya go...
Alpha Readers are people you can trust to give you honest yet kind and encouraging feedback on your novel. An alpha reader will typically review the book for different elements (Narration, Scene-building, Characters, Description, Conflict, Theme, Dialogue, Plot and Pace as well as an overall feel). Alpha readers will not proofread or edit the book, only offer feedback on what you have written (at least this Alpha Reader wont). Beta Readers are individuals that review the work after a fair amount of revision has been completed. They will review for a ton of other things. (Flow, consistency, plot holes, issues with continuity or characters..) Betas do a lot of the same thing as the Alpha's do, they just review after the initial revision. Every book I beta read I provide the same thing to the author:
If you have questions or areas you would like me to focus on, I'll definitely take a look and keep that in mind. Don't be afraid to ask me questions about what I've seen and read... I want you to be satisfied! |
